Marvel’s Luke Cage will hit Netflix on Sept. 30, via star Mike Colter

Season two of Marvel’s Daredevil is set to debut next week, March 18, on Netflix. At the red carpet premiere for the new season, the star of another Marvel Netflix series revealed when his show would debut on the streaming network.

Mike Colter, who plays the title character in Luke Cage, announced that the new show will premiere on Sept. 30. Luke Cage will be the third in Marvel’s “Defenders” series, joining Daredevil and Jessica Jones and likely followed next year by Iron Fist, that will eventually culminate in a fifth show in which all four characters will team up, Avengers-style.

“It’s going to be action-packed, from beginning to the very end,” Colter told Marvel.com’s Lorraine Cink. “Trust me. Daredevil premieres March 18, and I will see the fans on September 30th.” (You can hear his remarks around the 2:20 mark of the embedded Facebook video.)

The Cage character debuted in season one of Jessica Jones, living a reclusive life as a bartender in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s soon revealed, however, that he has superhuman strength and indestructible skin. An official synopsis from Marvel indicates that the series will take place before Jessica Jones.

“After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”

Cheo Hodari Coker (Ray Donovan) will be the executive producer and showrunner for Luke Cage. Joining Colter in the cast will be Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali (House of Cards), Simone Missick (Scandal) and Rosario Dawson.
