In late January, Gawker posted an article containing a link to the leaked script for Quentin Tarantino’s stagecoach western The Hateful Eight. Tarantino allegedly only gave the script to a handful of people, and in a rage he decided to shelve the movie and sue Gawker.
A few months later he decided to withdraw his suit against Gawker, but the fate of his film starring Bruce Dern, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Madsen was unknown.
Around the same time that Tarantino withdrew his suit, he held a live reading of The Hateful Eight in Los Angeles with Kurt Russell, Tim Roth and many others joining Dern, Jackson and Madsen on stage. Afterwards, it appeared that the movie was back on track for production, but Tarantino was still mum about the issue… until this past weekend.
During a panel at Comic Con for a Django Unchained/Zorro comic book, an audience member asked Tarantino about The Hateful Eight and Tarantino confirmed it would be filmed saying, “Yes, we are going to be doing The Hateful Eight. All for you. We weren’t sure about it until just now.”
Maybe not the firmest of commitments, but now we have further proof this movie will be made with the release by The Weinstein Company of the poster for The Hateful Eight:
The Hateful Eight is expected to be released in December 2015, and will be shot on 70mm film. The last major release to use 70mm was P.T. Anderson’s The Master in 2012.
