Batman shows off new threads in photo tweeted by Zack Snyder

One of the tidbits that movie reporters and bloggers learned when visiting the set of the upcoming Justice League in London is that Batman will wear more than one suit in the film. That might cause some Batfans to have bad flashbacks to the Joel Schumacher Batman movies, in which the Caped Crusader donned some kind of special suit for the climax that looked more geared to sell toys than serve any dramatic purpose.

Apparently, however, there is a narrative reason for Ben Affleck’s Batman to wear a “tactical suit” for the third act of Justice League. Not only will the suit provide more protection for the non-superhuman member of DC Comics’ superhero group. But it will also have something to do with a new vehicle that the Dark Knight will be using as well. That might explain some of what you see from a photo of the new Batsuit tweeted out by director Zack Snyder on Wednesday.

All right, we’re admittedly pushovers for a lot of superhero stuff. But that suit looks pretty cool, almost like a combination of Snyder’s Batsuit and the costume used in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.

Those familiar with Snyder’s previous film, Watchmen, might find Batman’s goggles familiar. They resemble the eyepieces that Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson) sported as part of his costume. Whether or not that’s a good thing likely depends on your opinion of that film. (Personally, I’m a fan, both of the movie and the Nite Owl costume.)

Oh, Batman also wore goggles during the “Knightmare” dream sequence in Batman v Superman, though in that case, the eyewear was presumably intended to keep out desert dust. But maybe Snyder and costume designer Michael Wilkinson just have a thing for brooding nighttime crusaders wearing goggles.

Regardless, not a bad gift for Batman Day on Saturday from Snyder and Warner Brothers. We’ll probably see plenty more in the weeks and months to come. Just in case you need to be reminded, Justice League is set for a Nov. 16, 2017 release.
