As rumors continue to swirl about the cast, the mood, and the location for season two of HBO’s True Detective, a series of scenes apparently deleted from the first season have appeared online featuring season one detective Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) being Rust Cohle while behind the wheel of a Lincoln MKC.
In the first one, Cohle expands on the “time is a flat circle” theory:
The second was cut because we all know Cohle drives around a Ford pickup:
Lastly, Cohle stares down an 1,800 pound bull named Osiris:
All three were directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Drive), and were clearly deleted due to the product placement and endorsement of Lincoln.
Also, they appear to take place during the time that Cohle was married before moving to Louisiana because of the wedding ring on Cohle’s left hand. Could these have been a series of flashbacks that series creator Nic Pizzolatto decided didn’t fit with the dark, brooding nature of Cohle?
Or maybe, they’re just Lincoln commercials starring McConaughey, and not deleted scenes from the award-winning show. It’s hard to tell.
