As long as there is television, there will be cop shows. But have there been that many good police comedies on TV? Movies have mastered the “buddy-cop” dynamic for years, so it stands to reason that TV would adapt one of the most popular in recent memory for a possible show.
CBS has ordered a pilot based on the 1998 film Rush Hour, which originally starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. As with the movie, the show will follow a Hong Kong police officer working a case that brings him to Los Angeles, where he teams with a local detective.
(Personally, I love that scene because I currently live in the South and everyone here talks to my Asian mother loud and slow. Sometimes amusing, sometimes annoying. Kind of like Chris Tucker.)
Of course, how appealing this show will be depends on who the producers cast as the two lead characters. (Regardless, a show with Asian and black lead actors seems promising. But something that gives this series some hope is that Bill Lawrence is a writer and executive producer on the project. Or maybe you don’t think that’s hopeful, if you didn’t like Spin City, Scrubs or Cougar Town.
