Wrestler CM Punk to write Thor story for Marvel Comics

While wrestling fans wonder when CM Punk will return to the ring, the former WWE champ apparently has some other career aspirations he’d like to try. Punk will take a crack at writing comic books, making his Marvel Comics debut with a story in Thor Annual #1, set to be published in Feb. 2015.

“[T]he idea was, let’s do a story about young Thor as kind of a brash, bratty teenager who’s like, ‘I’m totally worthy of this hammer. My dad’s full of [expletive]. I don’t know why I’m not “worthy” of the hammer. Look at all this cool stuff I did,'” Punk said in an interview with Marvel.com.

“And it’s more or less like a drinking story. He’s gonna be sitting around with a few choice characters from the Marvel Universe, and they’re all gonna be drinking, and Thor’s gonna basically be complaining about essentially why his dad won’t give him the keys to the car.”

The first Thor movie in 2011 touched on the character’s arrogance preventing him from taking his rightful role as Asgard’s king. Learning humility was a key development in his journey back to being a hero and worthy of wielding that big hammer.

Punk may not be done writing for Marvel either. In his interview, he said that he originally asked to write a Punisher story, which he thinks is “badass.” But Thor is a more popular character right now, which is one reason why the publisher may have steered him that way.
