A Doritos-flavored Mountain Dew is really happening

Let it never be said that anything is impossible. Especially when it comes to junk food.

Thankfully, we have the makers of Doritos always pushing against the boundaries of the limits we may have imposed on nacho chips. First, they figured out that a Doritos taco shell would be an improvement on the fast-food taco, and the innovation may have revitalized Taco Bell in the process. (Maybe the Taco Bell people came up with it, but let’s stick with this narrative.)

And now, the amazing food scientists at Pepsi have come up with a way to have the taste of Mountain Dew combined with Doritos in your mouth for at least 12 ounces. According to The Atlantic, the soft drink company is test-marketing a Doritos-flavored version of Mountain Dew, which was revealed on a Reddit thread by a Kent State student. The concoction is being called “Dewitos.”

This is a real thing, people. Snopes has given it the “TRUE” stamp of viability. And Stephen Colbert weighed in on this development during Monday night’s The Colbert Report.

Pepsi confirmed that this wasn’t a hoax, releasing a statement to the media (including USA Today) that the company is always trying new flavors of Mountain Dew and often gives college students the opportunity to try these bold experiments with flavor. This one tastes like “orange with a Doritos after-taste.” Coming to a gas station near you? We’ll see.
