More eye candy, somber tone in new ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ trailer

Marvel Studios (and Disney) dropped the new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron during Monday night’s college football championship game. You’ve probably already seen it — if not on TV, then likely online multiple times afterwards. But the second full-length preview for the film is packed with enough visual goodies, and piques enough curiosity, to warrant even more viewings.

If you (gasp!) haven’t seen it, check it out.

One thing that seems to be consistent through all of the teasers and trailers that have been released is the somber, foreboding tone. The idea that something bad is going to happen in this film keeps getting emphasized. Is killer robot Ultron going to wipe out the Avengers (or kill one of its popular members)? Will the group splinter in the wake of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner creating a monster that wants to wipe out humanity? Why are Iron Man and the Hulk fighting — and why does the Green Goliath look angrier than he ever has?

We see a few other glimpses that raise questions: Who is the woman disrobing in the cave? (Is she a hint at the African nation of Wakanda, home to future Marvel film star Black Panther?) Who is the sorceress-looking lady attacking Thor with lightning, perhaps draining his power? Which character is Andy Serkis playing? What more do we learn about Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and her background?

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1. We have just another three-and-a-half months to wait (and hopefully get answers to all these questions)!
