NBC’s Hannibal ended its second season with the famed serial killer running off to Europe after discovering that FBI profiler Will Graham had been deceiving him in an attempt to get him arrested. As could be expected from the most grisly show on television, it was messy and bloody. And well, it was kind of spectacular, if you’re a fan of the show.
Season three of Hannibal isn’t set to debut on NBC until this summer, but to assuage fans who might be disappointed, a teaser trailer promoting the new run of episodes hit the internet on Thursday.

The warped, doomed relationship between Lecter and Graham continues!
I forgive you. #Hannibal

Fans of the entire Hannibal Lecter saga will surely recognize some visual cues to previous movies such as Red Dragon and 2011’s Hannibal. Showrunner and creator Bryan Fuller has indicated that future seasons of Hannibal will follow the mythology of stories we’ve previously seen. Richard Armitage has been cast as Francis Dolarhyde, the serial killer known as “The Tooth Fairy,” seen in Red Dragon (and 1986’s Manhunter) for season 3 and he’d surely be seen again in a fourth season.
Fuller has previously stated a fifth season would retell Silence of the Lambs if the show continues to be renewed. However, to tell that story, there will have to be some negotiation or creative contortion to get around rights issues for the character of Clarice Starling, which are currently owned by another studio. Any retelling would include different characters created for the show, such as Gillian Anderson’s Dr. Bedelia du Maurier.
When Hannibal is aired this summer, it will be seen Friday nights at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
