Video: ‘Trainwreck’ trailer shows Amy Schumer is ready for big screen

We’re probably guilty of paying too much attention to blockbusters (especially of the superhero variety) when it comes to big summer releases. But one upcoming movie worth getting excited about is Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow and starring Amy Schumer (who also wrote the script).

Schumer is one of the rising — if not already established — stars in comedy right now, so getting a big screen break is a big step in her career. (Even if people don’t warm to her as an actress, she very likely has a bright future as a writer.) Being surrounded by talent such as SNL alumni Bill Hader and Vanessa Bayer won’t hurt her either.

Here is the red band (meaning Not Safe For Work!) trailer for Trainwreck:

Since Bloguin is largely a sports blog network, we can’t overlook the fact that LeBron James has a role in this film. And judging from the trailer, he isn’t just making a cameo appearance as a good friend of Hader’s character, who’s a sports doctor. (Maybe this is how Schumer imagines Dr. James Andrews!) Also appearing is WWE star John Cena, though it appears that he’s not playing himself, just one of Schumer’s sexual conquests in the story.

(Personally, I’m also hoping that Schumer writing the script helps Apatow become a tighter filmmaker, as movies like Funny People and This is 40 were tedious and felt terribly self-indulgent. Maybe Schumer can edit the film too.)

If you’re interested in hearing more about Schumer’s experience working on the movie, especially from a writing standpoint, her podcast interview with Brian Koppelman at Grantland is worth your listening time.

Trainwreck is scheduled for a July 17 release.
