Do you remember the “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal” series of videos from 2013?
If it’s not familiar to you, the meme was a collection of Vines by Ryan McHenry, featuring clips from Gosling movies and interviews with dramatic expressions or gestures. McHenry would hold a spoonful of cereal to the screen, to which Gosling appeared to be responding.
The bitter subtext to the meme was that McHenry was diagonsed with osteosarcoma that same year. This past Sunday, he passed away at the age of 27. Vine paid homage to McHenry on Twitter and support developed for getting Gosling to eat cereal as a tribute to him. The actor got the message and posted a video to Vine in honor of McHenry.
