One of the signature traits of Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men and headmaster of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, is that he’s bald. Xavier’s smooth head was just one of the many reasons Patrick Stewart was such a perfect choice to portray the telepathic mutant throughout the X-Men series of films.
But the character was rebooted for the two most recent movies, played as a younger man by James McAvoy. While Xavier did eventually lose use of his legs and was confined to a wheelchair — another of his signature traits — McAvoy has sported a wonderful head of hair in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
That will change in the next edition of the series, X-Men: Apocalypse. Director Bryan Singer made that official, posting a picture of McAvoy getting his head shaved on Instagram.
All right, that’s more like it. That’s the Charles Xavier we grew to know through Marvel Comics and the older X-Men movies. Bald and beautiful. McAvoy might not be entirely thrilled of having his hair shaved off, but he surely knew that was an inevitability when signing on to play the character.
Now the only mystery is how Xavier loses his hair. We’ll find out when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016, if not before then.
