If you watched Bill Murray’s final appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman this week (and weren’t too distracted by the comedian being covered in cake residue and frosting), you might recall the two briefly mentioning an upcoming Christmas special that Murray had filmed with director Sofia Coppola.
Netflix has now released a teaser of the special, titled A Very Murray Christmas. Admittedly, it isn’t much. Of course, we’re talking about a teaser. But the sight of Murray wearing antlers, looking like he’d rather be somewhere else, but in disheveled formal wear that indicates he’s either been partying or is ready to break out into embarrassing song is enough for now. Take a look.
“It’s not going to be live,” Murray told Variety last October. “We’re going to do it like a little movie. It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music. It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose.”
Apparently, there will be a story to the program, with Murray worried that a snowstorm will ruin his TV show. But guests stop by to cheer him up and make sure the show goes on. George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph and Miley Cyrus will be among those making special appearances.
An exact release date hasn’t been announced, but A Very Murray Christmas will be available this December. (When else would you expect it?)
