When he’s not playing Marvel’s Norse God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth is making some intriguing career choices, taking supporting roles in upcoming comedies.
On Wednesday, director Paul Feig announced that Hemsworth was joining the cast of his Ghostbusters reboot, playing the receptionist for the ghost-hunting foursome of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. In the original two films, that role was played by Annie Potts.

Hemsworth also has a role in this summer’s Vacation, in which he looks very happy to see Ed Helms and Christina Applegate. He’s playing Stone Crandall, an up-and-coming anchorman who’s married to Rusty Griswold’s sister, Audrey.
Playing eye candy and showing he’s good for some laughs in a couple of comedies is a smart move by Hemsworth following his starring role in Blackhat, which flopped. Feig also showed with Jason Statham in Spy that he can spin comedy gold with action heroes. Hemsworth will still have plenty of big action roles coming up, with Thor: Ragnarok, In the Heart of the Sea and The Huntsman. (Rumor has it he may be playing pulp hero Doc Savage, though that film hasn’t officially been announced.)
Jon Hamm might be wondering how he didn’t get that Ghostbusters receptionist role, though.
