Forgive the obvious statement, but divorce can be an ugly circumstance between former husband and wife, leading each side to do or say some things they might not otherwise.
Among the painful aspects of the fallout from a broken marriage is for the couple to split its belongings. This is open to interpretation, but one German man may have found a constructive way to deal with this situation. At least he probably felt it was constructive. Others could rightly point out it’s immature and vindictive — and probably unnecessarily expensive.
Going by “Der Juli” on his YouTube page, the man filmed video of him dividing his possessions with his ex-wife — literally. He cut everything in half. A bed, a sofa, an iPhone, a laptop and a car were all sliced in half in what’s a rather impressive testament to the precision of good power tools. See it for yourself.
This whole endeavor seems as if it could be a stunt, but there’s only one video on Der Juli’s YouTube page, so it doesn’t appear as if he’s just fascinated with cutting things in half and using his various power saws.
The blurb accompanying the video translate from German to “Thank you for 12 ‘beautiful years,’ Laura! You’ve really earned half. Greetings also to my successor.”
According to Mashable, the ex-husband is attempting to sell his halves of assorted household items on eBay. (That’s one way to try and recoup the money he’s surely cost himself, which is certainly one question I had when learning about this story.)
So if you’ve ever wanted half of a car, this is your opportunity. Unfortunately, he will not ship to the United States, so you might be better off sawing your own car in half. Maybe it will be a positive way of channeling your anger over a divorce. Or not.
