Earlier this year, we got a glimpse of what Michael Fassbender might look like as Steve Jobs in the upcoming biopic written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle. Fassbender looked like… well, he looked like Fassbender.
Of course, how an actor physically embodies a real-life figure and how the character is written is ultimately more important than physical resemblance. After all, Ashton Kutcher looks like Jobs and the movie he starred in didn’t do so well.
But we’ll just have to get over Fassbender not resembling Jobs (especially not as much as Christian Bale, who was up for the role at one point). This Steve Jobs movie is made. And as its first trailer shows, Fassbender is an excellent actor who embodies the person and creative force that Jobs was in life.
Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak certainly has a large part in this trailer, and maybe that indicates the size of his role in the movie. Since Wozniak was a consultant to Sorkin as he wrote the screenplay (based on Walter Isaacson’s biography), perhaps that shouldn’t be a surprise. Though judging from the trailer, Boyle’s film also explores events in Jobs’ life beyond his experiences with Apple.
Steve Jobs opens in theaters Oct. 9.
