A retelling of the Frankenstein story might compel a few eye-rolls. But at least the upcoming Victor Frankenstein appears to be attempting a new spin on the mythos, without just amping it up with a bunch of soulless CGI and action. (Looking at you, Van Helsing and Dracula Untold.)
This version of the tale is told from Igor’s perspective. Daniel Radcliffe plays the young assistant to Dr. Frankenstein (James McAvoy) in a movie that almost seems to be a cinematic clarification to those who think “Frankenstein” is the name of the monster, not the scientist who created him.
Here is the first trailer for Victor Frankenstein:
Director Paul McGuigan was behind the camera for several episodes of the BBC’s Sherlock and has brought Andrew Scott (who played Moriarty) and Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes) from that cast to this film. The script is written by Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra), and the trailer demonstrates plenty of witty lines for McAvoy to lob at Radcliffe.
Victor Frankenstein is set for a Nov. 25 release, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
