Netflix and Marvel have been consistently churning out teaser videos and images from its upcoming series, Jessica Jones. Given the almost entirely unknown profile of the character (except to those who read the comic book series, Alias, upon which this show is based), that seemed like a smart marketing strategy.
Let people know that this show trafficked the same dark landscape as Daredevil with a lead character that was troubled and tough. But oh yeah, she has superpowers. But we hadn’t really seen any footage from Jessica Jones itself. That is, until now, with Netflix releasing the first full trailer for the series, one month before its debut.
Those who read the source material — which was published by Marvel from 2001 to 2004, and is now available in digital format online and in trade paperback collections — will find the title character throwing someone through a window a very familiar image. The trailer then takes us through the dark, lonely world Jones (played by Krysten Ritter) lives in, explaining that she’s a private investigator, has extraordinary strength that allows her to stop moving cars and smash windows of subway trains, and a troubled past in which the villain of the piece controlled her mind and made her do things against her will.
Fans of the comic books and Marvel Comics in general should also enjoy the glimpse of Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Killgrave (David Tennant), both characters that have a long history through Marvel mythology but enjoyed new purpose and popularity in the Alias series.
Jessica Jones premieres on Netflix Nov. 20, with the entire 13-episode season available at 12:01 a.m. PT.
