Watch: Adele says ‘Hello’ to Lionel Richie, who returns the ‘Hello’

While watching the video for Adele’s new single, “Hello,” how many of you thought of Lionel Richie’s 1983 song with the same title?

It’s an easy connection to make, and maybe even an easier joke to crack, but at least someone took the time to create a mash-up of the two videos — even if it’s a really short one. We tip our cap to the people at BlendTV. Here is their creation:

If only the folks at BlendTV could have worked it so that Adele touched that clay sculpture of Lionel Richie. But that just leaves an opening for another enterprising video editor. Someone had to cut the ribbon first, and we most certainly appreciate that effort.

On a somewhat unrelated note, if you’re curious about Adele using a flip phone in her “Hello” video, director Xavier Dolan provides an explanation for that to the L.A. Times‘ Steven Zeitchik. Basically, he didn’t want the video to be an advertisement for whatever phone Adele was using.
