International trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ includes new footage

It’s been nearly three weeks since the third — and presumably final — trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted during halftime of Monday Night Football, so you might think there wasn’t that much more to show audiences without giving away too much from the movie. But apparently, there was just a bit more, at least as far as the international market is concerned.

Early Friday morning, a new trailer for The Force Awakens with Japanese subtitles was posted online. And there is enough new footage included to make it worth watching. And don’t sweat the subtitles. The lines aren’t dubbed over in Japanese, so you can understand what everyone is saying, notably John Boyega’s Finn and Daisy Ridley’s Rey saying their names on screen. But enjoy the other great shots in this trailer!

Some of the online chatter has centered on more footage of BB-8 than in previous trailers. That rolling robot already looks like the breakout character of The Force Awakens, if for no other reason than your kid(s) will want BB-8 toys. OK, plenty of adults will too. (My desktop is lacking in BB-8 at the moment.)

We also get some more of Kylo Ren and his badass lightsaber, which looks more flat-bladed than what we’ve seen in previous Star Wars films, along with the fact that it has a more fiery, jagged appearance, as if it was hand-made. Personally, I love the Apocalypse Now-type shot of TIE Fighters flying at sunset. Or is that sunrise? Does it matter? Those aren’t choppers! They’re TIE Fighters!

Do we need to mention that Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18? You probably already have your tickets for the night before, on Dec. 17.
