The ultimate battle for cooking supremacy is making a comeback.
For those clamoring to see even more Bobby Flay on their TV screens, Variety reports that Food Network is developing a reboot of Iron Chef America, tentatively titled Iron Chef Gauntlet. The reboot will bring back the culinary battle show originally popularized in Japan. The reboot will (thankfully) retain Alton Brown as resident pun-maker and host. Other than that, few details were revealed on what possible format changes the new version of the show will offer.
The original Iron Chef America ran for 12 seasons on Food Network. The fight for the title of Iron Chef was largely entertaining. The show featured the usual timed format with a secret ingredient unique to each show that was necessary to be used in each dish. Throw in Brown’s fantastic commentary and high skilled Food Network stars calling each other out, and there’s no question why the show was initially successful.
Bringing it back is an easy decision for the Food Network. It allows them to feature their top talent head-to-head in the network’s biggest competition. Who doesn’t enjoy a good ol’ fashioned cook-off between some of the world’s best chefs? Iron Chef Gauntlet, at the very least, should become entertaining fodder when you’re bored and too uninspired to cook. The show is expected to air in the second-quarter of next year.
