When life gives you lemons you make lemonade, and when life gives you a rapper who refuses to participate in his music video shoot, you make one of the most creative music videos of all-time.
The just-released video for Young Thug’s song “Wyclef Jean” features women riding around on tiny cars, kids smashing police cars and, most notably, narration from the directors, who explain step-by-step how the shoot came to include all that ridiculousness but not (much) Young Thug himself.
Basically, Young Thug submitted some vague instructions and a video of him eating Cheetos, then refused to show up. At one point, he made it to the shoot but promptly left because his Instagram had been hacked. The whole thing cost $100,000.
We’re probably not doing the video justice with this explanation. Just watch it for yourself:
Now, there is some chance this is all phony and the Young-Thug-ditches-his-own-video-shoot concept was the plan all along. At the very least, the rapper obviously had to sign off on the idea for it to now be published on his own official YouTube account.
So if this was all just a ploy for a little attention… well, it worked. After being posted Monday, the video already has more than half a million views.
