How Harrison Ford reacted to punching Ryan Gosling in the face on Blade Runner 2049 set

Harrison Ford has been in the news a lot lately and not always for the best of reasons. Back in November, Carrie Fisher revealed she and Ford had an affair in 1976 while filming Star Wars. Now, word has gotten out that Harrison Ford apparently punched Ryan Gosling.

Well, it’s not as simple as “Hey, did you know Harrison Ford punched Ryan Gosling?” And it’s not like this happened in public while the two were eating Mexican food together in downtown Los Angeles.

Instead, this incident happened on set while the two were filming Blade Runner 2049, which is scheduled to be released on Oct. 5, 2017. The story emerged when Gosling was profiled recently by GQ. Here’s how it played out:

Gosling and Harrison were performing a fight scene and all of a sudden, Harrison clocked Gosling in the face.

“We were just doing a fight scene and, you know, it just happened. But what was funny was, when it was over, they brought ice for my face, and Harrison pushed me out of the way and stuck his fist in the ice.” Gosling said. “I asked him the other day where he got his sense of humor from—was it from his mother or his father? He said, ‘Sears.’ And he didn’t have much time to shop around so he just had to grab one and get out.”

Ford’s reaction was fantastic. If there’s something that you’d guess Gosling prefers not to get hit during a fight, it would be his money-making face. But who’s the real star of Blade Runner 2049? That’s right, kid. People will be coming to see Ford reprise another of his iconic roles in a long-awaited sequel. But despite getting dinged, Gosling certainly seemed to think Ford made the moment funny.

Besides Ford’s reaction, Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve argued that what happened to Gosling was actually “lucky.”

“You know… he’s tough. He’s been an inspiration to everyone—everyone is doing push-ups now and taking an interest in their fitness. As soon as it happened, the director came up to me and said, ‘Look at it this way—you just got hit by Indiana Jones,’” Gosling said.

But don’t worry, the legendary actor did apologize later on for punching his co-star.

“He came by afterward with this bottle of scotch, and I thought, ‘Oh, I knew this was coming.’ And he pulled out a glass from his pocket, poured me a glass, and walked away with the rest of the bottle. So I guess he felt like he didn’t connect enough to earn a whole bottle.” Gosling admitted. “You know, they say don’t meet your heroes, but I would say the addendum to that is ‘… unless they’re Harrison Ford.’ ‘Cause he’s a cool motherfucker.”

Not going to lie, getting punched by Harrison Ford sounds kind of cool. For one, you can say you were punched by Indiana Jones and Han Solo all in one swipe. On top of that, you get some free scotch.
