DC premieres new Suicide Squad trailer, Wonder Woman footage, Batman v Superman teaser

The hype is real.

During tonight’s Dawn of the Justice League special on The CW, a new trailer for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie premiered, and by golly, it’s action-packed fun.

The trailer gives us a look at these new villains who are destined to become heroes of sorts. We’re given a much deeper introduction to Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), the Joker (Jared Leto), as well as the rest of the baddies. In the perfectly edited trailer, with Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” playing throughout, we see the group get recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and a quick tease to some of their adventures. There’s plenty of humor, action and madness. Honestly, there’s a very Guardians of the Galaxy vibe with the underdog story and a classic oldie soundtrack, but that’s not a bad thing.

Here’s a good look at Harley Quinn doing Harley Quinn things.

Hate on the movie’s hype all you want, but you can’t deny it looks fun. This trailer is a perfect sample of the batshit adventures these reckless antiheroes will go on and should get people incredibly hyped for what’s to come in the DC Film universe. DC often gets crapped on for being overly serious, but this film looks like it’s all fun.

Suicide Squad is set to be released on Aug. 5.

That’s not the only advance look we got. During the same special, DC Films showed off the first footage from the Wonder Woman film. Production just began in November — they’re still casting roles, as the movie isn’t slated to be released until the summer of 2017 — but from the short amount of footage we’re shown, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

We see Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in full Amazonian attire kicking some ass.

Here’s our first official look at Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

It’s still hard to believe we’re finally getting a Wonder Woman film after so many failed attempts, but so far this looks legit.

If that wasn’t enough, we also got a very quick look at Batman v Superman, with no spoilers this time. The spot is only 15 seconds, but it features a cool shot of Batman facing Superman after he assumably trashed his Batmobile.

The CW special showed there are plenty of reasons to have some faith in what the DC Film universe is doing. These three films all look like they have massive potential and have nailed their marketing, aside from the awful and spoilerific Batman v Superman trailer released last month.

DC definitely stole some thunder from Marvel, who also aired a Captain America 75th anniversary special tonight in advance of the two-hour season two premiere of Agent Carter.

If you are a comic buff, there’s never been a better time to go to the theater.
