Adele announces new album, ’25,’ to be released Nov. 20

The message was simple. Adele announced the release date of her new album on Thursday with her first post on Instagram, accompanied by a black and white photo that could possibly be the album cover.

It’s been four years since 21 was released, so what’s another month to wait? Adele’s previous album sold 30 million copies worldwide and won seven Grammy Awards. “Hello,” the first single off 25 will be available this coming Friday, Oct. 23. The music video for the single, directed by Xavier Dolan, will go online the same day.

Dropping an album on the Friday before Thanksgiving is also pretty savvy timing. Though we no longer live in a world where most people will go to music stores to snap up a CD or vinyl record, a new Adele album should provide a boost to holiday sales at retailers that sell music. Obviously, plenty of others will buy a download online on Friday, Nov. 20 when 25 goes on sale.

“My last record was a break-up record,” the singer said on social media, “and if I had to label this one, I would call it a make-up record. I’m making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did.”

Here is the full track listing for the album:
