One of the more intriguing and mysterious characters in the Star Wars mythology of films is Boba Fett, the intergalactic bounty hunter who turned Han Solo over to Jabba the Hutt at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.
The appeal of Boba Fett has been somewhat mystifying, as there was nothing in the films to suggest that he was a character deserving of all this interest. Yes, he had a cool outfit and weapons, and his spaceship kind of looked like an iron held upright. But what did he really do in the Star Wars movies? What did he contribute? A former co-worker of mine could go on a five-to-15 minute rant in the break room or at parties if Boba Fett ever came up.
What would all those Boba Fett supporters with all their curiosity say if a photo of the bounty hunter unmasked during a break in filming had become public all those years ago? What would fans say if underneath that helmet, Boba Fett looked more like your math teacher? The following picture was posted on Reddit last week.
Apparently, this was taken during some additional scenes that were filmed for the Star Wars special editions that were released theatrically in the late ’90s to commemorate the 20th anniversary of A New Hope‘s original debut.
The man shown in this photo is not actor Jeremy Bulloch, who played Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. A Google image search of Bulloch will make that clear. But just in case, if I were Bulloch, I might want to make it clear that the guy in the Fett costume here is not me. No offense to the other guy, of course.
