Captain America first appeared in comic books back in 1941, created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Marvel Comics didn’t even exist back then. The company was known as Timely Comics. That makes 2016 the 75th anniversary for the character and as you can imagine, Marvel has a few things in mind to celebrate the occasion.
Obviously, a big part of that will be the release of Captain America: Civil War in theaters on May 6. But before then, Marvel and fellow Disney property ABC has something more celebratory planned. On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the network will air a one-hour special titled Captain America: 75 Heroic Years. The show will air at 8 p.m. ET before the season two premiere of Agent Carter.

“This special one-hour event follows the history of Captain America from 1941 to present and explores how the character has been a reflection of the changing times and the world he has existed in throughout the years. Fans will hear from various Marvel luminaries including Stan Lee, Joe Quesada, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Jeph Loeb, Louis D’Esposito, Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell, as well as family members of Cap’s creators. “Marvel’s Captain America: 75 Heroic Years” will also unveil an exclusive announcement from Marvel comics.”
That tease of an exclusive announcement from Marvel is certainly intriguing. Will it be something related to the comic books (Bleeding Cool speculates Steve Rogers could take up the Captain America mantle again, having relinquished it to his friend, Sam Wilson) or could a new trailer for Civil War debut on ABC?
