Little Caesars to roll out bacon-wrapped deep dish pizza

With Pizza Hut basically cornering the market on what can be stuffed inside a pizza crust, Little Caesars is pushing the boundaries of possibility for the crust itself.

The pizza chain announced on Wednesday that it will be rolling out a deep dish pizza with bacon wrapped around the crust. The “Bacon Wrapped Crust Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza” will make its debut at Little Caesars locations throughout the country beginning Feb. 23. According to USA Today, it will take 3 1/2 feet of bacon to fully surround the pizza.

Little Caesars CEO David Scrivano boasts that consumers will get a piece of bacon in every bite because it will also be sprinkled on top of each pizza (accompanying the pepperoni). The bacon-wrapped pizza will be available for a limited time, replacing the chain’s soft pretzel crust specialty item, and will be one of Little Caesar’s most expensive pizzas at 12 dollars.

USA Today points out it could be the most time-consuming pizza to produce, which could affect sales of other products. Additionally, there are questions as to whether the bacon crust will travel well on the way home.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, a single slice of this dish will be 450 calories with 23 grams of fat, 830 milligrams of sodium and 40 milligrams of cholesterol. But that’s probably not a concern to you if a bacon-wrapped deep dish pizza sounds appealing.
