CW’s The Flash has already gotten cute by casting actors from the 1990 CBS series in supporting or guest roles. Barry Allen’s father is played by John Wesley Shipp, who portrayed the hero 24 years ago. Amanda Pays, who played scientist Tina McGee (and Allen love interest), will be a character with the same name but different background later this season.
Now, one of the 1990 Flash’s villains is coming back with a geek-favorite actor. Mark Hamill, certainly best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, gained a second life over the past 25 years trading on his name recognition for voice work on many cartoons, most notably The Joker on the 1990s Batman animated series. He’s also scored guest roles in movies such as Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and TV shows such as The Flash, in which he played The Trickster.
Hopefully, they give Grant Gustin’s Flash the same polka-dotted boots. OK, maybe not.
Actually, Hamill won’t be playing the exact same role, but like Pays, is kind of a new take on the character with the same name. According to HitFix’s Alan Sepinwall, Hamill will be James Jesse (a.k.a., The Trickster) on the new CW version of The Flash, but is in prison. A new character has taken the Trickster name, and the old Trickster will help the Flash and Central City police catch this upstart.
Hamill will appear on the 17th episode of The Flash, to be seen sometime in 2015.
