Marvel releases ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ trailer after leak

Sometimes, leaks aren’t a bad thing — especially for movie fans eager to get a peek at the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster.

Geeks have been anticipating a trailer for the Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, even more so after the studio announced it would debut a preview after next week’s (Oct. 28) episode of Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.

On Tuesday evening, however, that trailer leaked online. Fans could find pirated versions, but several movie sites notably Movieweb soon got their hands on a higher-quality version and posted it. That prompted Marvel to change its plans on the fly and release an official trailer. To its credit, that was done with a sense of humor.

So here it is. Check out the Avengers’ new robotic nemesis, Ultron, voiced with the appropriate amount of menace by James Spader. Earth’s mightiest heroes look like they’re in some jeopardy.

The trailer also provides a great look at Iron Man’s giant “Hulkbuster” armor, meant to take on the Hulk in a brute force fistfight. (And did you notice the glimpse of Bruce Banner in a straitjacket, presumably put there by his teammates after losing control?) Black Widow dropping out of a jet on a motorcycle is pretty cool too. Hell, what isn’t cool in this two minutes of awesome?

Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters on May 1, 2015. That feels like a long, long wait.
