Apparently, just about any toy or game you played with as a kid could be made into a movie.
Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox is talking with Hasbro about making a live-action movie involving Play-Doh. Furthermore, Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) is in negotiations to direct the film. (Shouldn’t he be busy with his Ghostbusters reboot?)
Mike Fleming’s report mentioned the project would be live-action in its first sentence, so we can probably forget any idea that a Play-Doh movie would involve stop-motion animation involving the modeling clay-like substance or perhaps something computer-generated like The LEGO Movie. But if they could get some licensed characters from Marvel, DC Comics or Star Wars involved, that could be fun.
If you’re not familiar with Play-Doh (but who wouldn’t be), here’s a commercial for it from the 1980s.
Hasbro has already gotten movies made from Transformers, G.I. Joe, Battleship and Ouija. What’s next? Spinoff Online’s Kevin Melrose beat me to the joke about a Silly Putty movie being next. Although I would argue that a compelling story could be made from my mother’s frequent anger at me getting that stuff stuck between couch cushions when I was a kid.
How about a Nerf movie? My Little Pony? Twister? Yahtzee? Look through your old toy closet or childhood photos and find the next major Hollywood motion picture franchise!
