Even if Sylvester Stallone is done making Rocky movies, he’s not finished with playing Rocky Balboa.
However, Rocky and Stallone presumably aren’t the focus in Creed. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, this spinoff from the Rocky franchise focuses on Adonis Creed, the son of Balboa’s rival and friend Apollo Creed, who is following in his father’s footsteps and seeks out the former heavyweight champ to train him. The younger Creed is played by Michael B. Jordan, reuniting the star and director of 2013’s Fruitvale Station.
Filming has begun on the project, as shown by this photo Stallone posted to his Instagram page.
Do most boxing trainers wear fedoras in the ring? That must be Rocky’s move. Besides, who’s going to tell the champ he can’t wear a hat in the ring? Or maybe this is a scene in which Balboa, who initially refused to train Creed, finally relents and agrees to tutor the second-generation fighter.
Perhaps this isn’t a scene from the movie at all, but an on-set photo in which Stallone is showing Jordan how to properly wind up for a vicious uppercut, in which case there’s really no issue with the hat. Are we obsessing too much on the hat?
Creed is scheduled to be released later this year on Nov. 25.
