Arrested Development star Michael Cera quietly released a solo album, true that, on Bandcamp last week. This lo-fi endeavor is mostly instrumental, and includes a cover of Blaze Foley’s “Clay Pigeons” that is sure to make listeners Google, “Blaze Foley.”
Cera has performed in the past with groups Mister Heavenly and The Long Goodbye, and did play bass in both Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. His most famous musical performance to date might be a moving rendition of The Guess Who’s “These Eyes” in the film, Superbad.
It has not been confirmed whether the album is actually from Cera, but it sure sounds like him singing on a handful of tracks from true that. This mixture of weird, quirky, folk tunes is reminisicent of Beck’s One Foot in the Grave, or the music of Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
