Outkast’s Andre Benjamin as Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming movie sounds pretty fun, doesn’t it? See for yourself. Here’s the trailer for Jimi: All is By My Side.
Written and directed by John Ridley (who won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for 12 Years a Slave), the story focuses on one year of Hendrix’s life — specifically, 1966 to 1967, just before his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival made him a star. (Portraying this stage of his career also allowed Ridley to work around not getting the rights to Hendrix’s music for the film.)
Jimi: All is By My Side is set for a Sept. 26 release.
