The world has missed Reading Rainbow since its run on PBS in 2006. Recently, host LeVar Burton has revived the show through a Kickstarter campaign, making the content available online, through mobile and in classrooms.
But if you’re not quite in the Reading Rainbow target audience, you can still enjoy Burton reading a book to you. The actor read Adam Manbach’s 2011 book Go the Fuck to Sleep during the Rooster Teeth Extra Life telethon, helping to raise nearly $83,000 for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Here’s a video of the reading.
Manbach’s book was surely a fantasy read for any parents of newborns who had trouble falling asleep at night. As an uncle, I bought the book because I thought my niece’s parents would find it funny. (They didn’t. We’re such different people.) I envisioned reading the book to my niece for an afternoon nap while babysitting her, but could never go through with it. So Go the Fuck to Sleep ended up as an amusing addition to my coffee table. Maybe if I have my own kid someday, I can still read it to him or her.
In the meantime, has anyone checked on Troy Barnes to see how he feels about LeVar Burton reading profane material?
