“My world is fire and blood.”
The first line of the trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road is cryptic, but probably describes Max Rockatansky’s existence perfectly. It certainly sums up the glorious anarchy displayed in this two-and-a-half minute preview of director George Miller’s sequel/reboot (“rebootquel”?) of his “Mad Max” trilogy that made Mel Gibson an international superstar.
Check this baby out.
What isn’t amazing about this trailer? A guy wears a gas mask decorated with the jaw from an animal skull. Souped-up cars, dune buggies motorcycles and tanker trucks surge and explode with furious anger. Massive sandstorms loom against the few poor souls left to fight for their lives in this world. Charlize Theron’s head is covered in eye black. Nicholas Hoult is in severe need of lip balm. (Apparently, Carmex is also in short supply, along with gasoline.)
And there’s fire, so much fire! I’m pretty sure someone swings a torch made from an electric guitar. But maybe that was a quick flash in which my mind tried to fill in the blanks. Hopefully not. A flaming guitar torch sounds awesome.
Nothing in this world that Miller created makes sense. There are no rules. This is why 1981’s The Road Warrior melted my pre-adolescent mind forever. Now Miller and Mad Max are back 34 years later to finish the job. And this time, he’s brought CGI effects (something the previous “Mad Max” films didn’t really need) to amp up the spectacle.
Mad Max: Fury Road will create fire and blood in theaters on May 15, 2015.
