After the success of Daredevil, anticipation has ramped up for the next Marvel series from Netflix, titled Jessica Jones. Previous reports indicated that the new show would launch this fall, but an exact airdate had not been announced. That is, until now.
On Thursday, Marvel released a teaser trailer for Jessica Jones, which includes a premiere date of Nov. 20. Check it out:
This is a teaser in every way, with no scenes or footage from the show (though a couple of still images from filming may have been used). Much like the initial marketing for Daredevil, the emphasis seems to be on these characters being street-level and not flying around in the skies like Iron Man and Thor.
The murky, colorful style of the visuals resembles the cover paintings by David Mack for the original comic books. Titled Alias, the series ran from 2001 to 2004, written by Brian Michael Bendis with interiors illustrated by Michael Gaydos. The story followed Jessica Jones, a private investigator who once had superpowers, but lost those abilities and becomes a private investigator.
Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) plays the title character in a cast that includes Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Rachael Taylor (Crisis), David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Mike Colter (The Good Wife) as Luke Cage, who will star in a subsequent Marvel series on Netflix. The plan is for Daredevil, Jones, Cage and Iron Fist (whose series is still in development) to each have a show before teaming up Avengers-style in a series called The Defenders.
Jessica Jones will be a 13-episode series and be available on Netflix Nov. 20. at 12:01 a.m. PT.
