Marvel certainly knows how to appease its voracious fanbase, eager for anything and everything related to its latest films.
The next trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron was scheduled to premiere on ABC this Thursday (March 5) with the pilot episode of American Crime. (That presumably would have given the new series quite a boost.) But the studio decided to give fans a chance to see the new preview early, asking fans to tweet #AvengersAssemble to unlock the trailer online. As could be expected, the subsequent wave of hashtags provided an opportunity to see two minutes of the Avengers battling their new arch-nemesis.
Thankfully, the third Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer is almost entirely composed of new clips, rather than material seen in the previous two previews. And that’s almost certainly the last taste we’ll get before the blockbuster’s May 1 release, unless some TV spots provide some new glimpses.
We see more of the killer robot villain (voiced by James Spader) in action, along with his army of automatons. We learn more about how this menace was unwittingly created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), with some help from Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). Speaking of Banner, is that a romantic moment between him and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) or is the spy messing with the moody doctor?
Then, at the very end, we get a quick look at something not seen in the prior trailers (something only teased in concept art and promotional materials): The Vision, the android created by Ultron in the Marvel Comics and played in this movie by Paul Bettany. Personally, I like the fact that Marvel and director Joss Whedon are saving big reveals for the movie itself, so we don’t feel like we’ve already seen the whole thing before going to the theater. But even this quick peek is exciting for those of us who have been waiting to see this character in live action.
Did we mention Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1? Well, we just did again.
