What is Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland?
Ever since the director announced his latest project, there’s been curiosity about it. With films like The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol on his resume, anything Bird does is going to attract a certain amount of interest. Add Disney as the studio and George Clooney as the star, and you have a movie people will almost certainly want to see.
Finally, we get a hint of what Tomorrowland is about with this teaser trailer.
OK, that still doesn’t tell us a whole lot. A young girl who’s living a rough life appears to be the protagonist. The pin she finds among can take her to a special place where, as Clooney’s character says, “nothing is impossible.” How did the pin find its way to the girl? Does she have any sort of connection to Clooney’s character?
Clooney made a surprise appearance at the New York Comic-Con on Friday, Oct. 10, joining a panel with Bird and writer Damon Lindelof to promote the film. According to the film’s official site, he plays a former boy genius (presumably based on Walt Disney) who’s “jaded with disillusionment.” Did he create Tomorrowland? Was it supposed to be a theme park of the future? A futuristic city? Another dimension? Where is this place?
I suppose we’ll have to see the movie to find out. Tomorrowland is scheduled for a May 22, 2015 release.
