Blockbuster movie trilogies should always end on a high note, with the best stuff coming at the end. Unfortunately, in recent years, that hasn’t quite been the case. Think of The Dark Knight Rises, Transformers: Dark of the Moon or Iron Man 3. (Is it unfair to include the third Iron Man flick here?)
Based on its new trailer, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 is bringing that epic feel to the end of this trilogy. (Or should we call it a “quadrilogy,” since Mockingjay is being split into two parts?) It certainly looks like director Francis Lawrence is raising the game in terms of action and special effects, matching the stakes of the story.
Of course, trailers are always cut to highlight the best moments and emphasize maximum drama. But still — Explosive arrows! Body armor! Armies clashing! Dams bursting! Walls collapsing!
Personally, I like President Snow’s (Donald Sutherland) line, “The things we love most… destroy us.” Especially because there’s a menacing — or knowing — glint in his eye as he says it.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 will hit theaters on Nov. 21.
