Watch: John Oliver, ‘Last Week Tonight’ cover 15 topics in one minute

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight had the weekend off for the 4th of July holiday, but the show thankfully gave us our fix of sharp commentary on pertinent topics with a one-minute, web-only exclusive.

As Oliver explains, Last Week Tonight usually devotes 15 minutes to one particular topic each week. But for this holiday edition, he and his writers went for a “shallow dive,” taking on 15 topics in one minute. So if you ever wanted Oliver’s quick thoughts on subjects such as flip-flops, bagels and orgies, your wishes have been granted.

Careful, John Oliver. If you get too good at giving people everything they want in one minute, that might end up being the show they want. Although HBO probably prefers the half-hour format for its show. I’m guessing the network wouldn’t attract too many new subscribers — or keep current ones — with one-minute content. Unless it’s Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell staring at each other at a table in a dive bar, maybe.
