Lucasfilm and Disney didn’t bring a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Comic-Con for their panel presentation. But they didn’t just settle for letting moderator Chris Hardwick ask the new cast questions, while taking some other queries from the audience.
No, J.J. Abrams and company brought a behind-the-scenes reel from the set, which featured enough goodies to satisfy the crowd in Hall H and fans viewing it afterward. As Mark Hamill mentions, and as you can see for yourself, the emphasis on real sets (the Millennium Falcon!) and practical effects drove the production. Check it out.
Just about everything you could conceivably want in such a reel is here. We get to see many of the new cast members, such as Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Domnhall Gleason. And we see the people behind familiar faces, like C-3P0 (Anthony Daniels) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). The best is saved for last, with our first look at Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and a glimpse of Harrison Ford as Han Solo.
BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH’s Evan Saathoff was one of the many writers who was in Hall H for the Star Wars panel, which sounds as if it had the right amount of theatricality to it, as cast members were brought out in small groups with the veterans taking the stage at the end.
As you surely already know, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens Dec. 18 in theaters.
