Watch: Will Ferrell takes over MLB in ‘Ferrell Takes the Field’ trailer

Perhaps you remember Will Ferrell hijacking the Cactus League back in March. During spring training, the comedian appeared in five games, fielded nine different positions and played for 10 MLB teams altogether. Though the one-day tour was intended to raise awareness and money for charity, Ferrell’s stunt also provided material for a Funny or Die special on HBO titled Ferrell Takes the Field.

A couple of weeks ago, HBO released a teaser trailer for the show. But a full trailer is now available. Give it a look.

This has the look of a HBO Sports documentary, which is surely no accident. Ferrell’s tour through Arizona spring training wasn’t just filmed with handheld cameras recording grainy footage. Professionals did this stuff!

Does Liev Schreiber narrate this special? Because he should. You can almost hear him narrate Ferrell running onto the field with the Oakland Athletics. And the Chicago Cubs. And eight other MLB clubs. (Hopefully, the footage also includes plenty of conversations and interviews with players and coaches from the teams involved.)

Ferrell Takes the Field premieres Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Now. Before tuning in, Tim Livingston’s scouting report of Ferrell and his Cactus League performance for The Outside Corner is also worth your time. Get all the information you can.
